The members of Executive of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Esan Central chapter, today Friday, October 9 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman, Esan Central Local Government Area, and made suggestions as to the best strategy the state government can use in retaining teachers in Esanland.
Speaking on their motive of visit, the Chairman of the chapter, Comrade Egbeyan A, who again, commended the Chairman of Esan Central Local Government, ECLG, area for his people oriented activities since he assumed office about one month ago, also said; "we are here in dual capacity; first to formally welcome you to the new office, and to appreciate you for coming to join us at Eguare primary school for the 2026 world teachers day celebration".
"I know you are a listening person who will also listen to us. Please, help us reach out to our governor; he promised he will employ three thousand more teachers, after the last employment of five thousand teachers".
Continuing, the NUT Chairman pointed out that more teachers of Esan origin should be employed so they can remain in Esan land, rather than seeking transfer to other areas, like none indigenes do, which eventually leave classrooms empty of teachers, which is all the more reasons why the schools practice the multi grade learning, where two different grades are merged together in one class, and one teacher tasked to manage the two classes, a method she said is grossly ineffective in imparting knowledge.
Other requests made by the NUT to Esan Central local government area Chairman, include a branch Secretariat for the Union, Security in the schools for the safety of both the teachers, pupils and the facilities in the schools. She also requested for a vehicle for official movements.
Responding, the Chairman promised to present the teachers' demands before the governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, during the next world teachers day celebration; adding that, Esan central teachers, deserve to have a branded vehicle to ease their official movements.
Also the teachers complained that previous governments were fond of using teachers to campaign and win elections, after which teachers are abandoned. To this, the Hon. Prince Momodu, who stressed that Governor Monday Okpebholo is one governor who rewards every input, even though sometimes, he scarcely talk about what he plans to do.
The Chairman also promised the Teachers union, that he will bring their request to the attention of the governor, while assuring them of a different experience from the administration of Governor Okpebholo.
