𝐄𝐝𝐨 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐄𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥, 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐄𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧

The Edo State Ecological Funding and Management Commission, has commenced moves to address erosion and gully-related challenges affecting communities in Esan Central Local Government Area.

The Commission, on Friday, October 2, 2026, visited several erosion-devastated locations in the Local Government Area to assess the extent of the damage and explore possible intervention measures aimed at controlling the menace and restoring the affected areas.

The inspection team was led by the Chairman of Esan Central Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Abdullahi Momodu, who conducted the team around some of the worst-affected areas in Opoji, Idumabi-Irria, Ibore and Ewu.


Speaking during the inspection, the Chairman expressed appreciation to the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for the intervention, saying; "...we thank the governor of Edo state, because without him, we can't do this".


"...the people have been suffering untold hardship because of the gully erosion devastated areas, and now Edo state governor is intervening..."


"I also appreciate the Edo State Ecological Funding and Management Commission, for responding to the erosion challenges confronting communities in Esan Central".

The Chairman noted that erosion has continued to threaten roads, properties and other infrastructure in some parts of the Local Government Area, stressing the importance of timely intervention to prevent further deterioration.


The Commission's team was led by its Chairman, Hon. Ambassador Terry Igiebor. 

Hon. Ambassador Ivie Uwaifo, the Executive Director, Administration,  and Engr. Charles Onabayo, Executive Director, Projects,  and other officials of the Commission were also in the team.


The team inspected the affected locations to obtain first-hand information on the nature and extent of the erosion, with a view to developing appropriate intervention measures.

The inspection is expected to pave the way for necessary engineering and ecological interventions to address the gullies and mitigate further environmental damage in the affected communities.


The exercise underscores the commitment of the Esan Central Local Government administration to working with relevant state government agencies and institutions to address pressing environmental and infrastructural challenges confronting the people.


The Secretary to the local government, Hon. Theophilus Oseigba, the Councillors representing Ward 5 Hon. Ehiagwina Ezekiel,  and the Councillor representing the Ward 7, Hon. Anthony Idiake, were with the Chairman of Esan Central Local Government Area, on the inspection Tour.
