Esan Central LG Boss, Leads Staff, Political Appointees In Environmental Sanitation Exercise

The Chairman of Esan Central Local Government Area, ECLG, Hon. Prince Abdullahi Momodu, represented by his Vice Chairman, Hon. Engr. Health Izokpu, on Saturday, 26th September 2026, led staff and political appointees of the council in the monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise across parts of Irrua, the headquarters of the local government.

The exercise, which is aimed at promoting a clean, healthy and hygienic environment, witnessed the active participation of council staff and political appointees who joined residents in clearing debris and removing refuse from strategic locations, including the environs of Irrua markets in Eguare and Idumu-Eguare, Idumabokha road and the Council Secretariat, among other locations within the local government area.


The exercise is part of the administration's efforts to sustain environmental cleanliness and encourage residents to take greater responsibility for the cleanliness of their surroundings.


Speaking during the exercise, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Engr. Health Izokpu, who represented the Chairman, who was away on official Assignment, urged residents to support the local government’s efforts by properly disposing of their waste and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

Hon. Izokpu said; "...I am here representing my Chairman, Hon. Prince Abdullahi Momodu..."


"...we are here today for the monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise..."


"...this is the first since we assume office, and we are trying to evacuate the trash in the old market, in Eguare, Irrua".


Continuing, he stressed that, maintaining a clean environment is a collective responsibility, noting that the participation of council officials and political appointees was also intended to demonstrate leadership by example.


The monthly sanitation exercise also provided an opportunity for council officials to identify areas requiring greater attention and to encourage residents and traders to maintain clean surroundings beyond the designated sanitation days.


The council administration reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sanitation and called on residents across Esan Central Local Government Area to cooperate with relevant authorities in keeping their communities clean, safe and healthy.


Present with the Vice Chairman, are; Hon. Theophilus Oseigba, the Secretary to the local government, Honourable Councillors representing Wards 1, 4,5,7 Hon. Apostle Matthew Ebhotemen, Hon. Obomerelu Akhimien, Hon. Ehiagwina Ezekiel and Hon. Anthony Isinge respectively.


The local government Council Heads of Department, led by the Director of General Services, DAGS, Mrs. Ebhodaghe, who represented the Head of Local Government Administration, HoLGA, Mrs Doris Oronsaye, were also present.
