Environmental Sanitation: LG Council DAGS, HODs Join Residents in Monthly Exercise

The monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State received the active participation of senior officials of the Local Government Council, as Directors and Heads of Departments joined residents in cleaning their surroundings.


The exercise, which took place across various parts of the Local Government Area, is aimed at promoting a clean, healthy and environmentally friendly community, while encouraging residents to take greater responsibility for the cleanliness of their immediate surroundings.

The Director of General Services, DAGS, Esan Central Local Government Area, Mrs. Ebhodaghe, who represented Mrs. Doris Orosanye during the exercise, said the participation of the Council officials was part of efforts to lead by example and sensitise residents on the importance of proper waste management and disposal.


Mrs. Ebhodaghe specifically drew attention to areas around Eguare Market, Irrua, that has been erroneously used by some residents as refuse dump site.


She said signposts would be placed at strategic locations around such areas, to clearly indicate that they are not authorised dump sites and to discourage indiscriminate disposal of refuse.


According to her, the area around Eguare Market should not be used as a dump site, urging residents to desist from dumping refuse there.


She said: “We are, by today’s sanitation activity, also sensitising people living around this place and others that this place is not a dump site". 


"People resident around this place should package their waste and make same available for waste managers for evacuation.”


Esan Central Local Government Council DAGS, further encouraged residents to cooperate with the Local Government’s environmental and sanitation authorities by properly packaging their household waste and making it available for evacuation, rather than dumping it indiscriminately.


She noted that maintaining a clean environment requires the collective efforts of the government, residents, traders and other stakeholders.


The participation of the Council’s Directors and Heads of Departments in the exercise further underscored the administration’s commitment to environmental sanitation and the promotion of a cleaner and healthier Esan Central Local Government Area.


Other Heads of Department in Esan Central Local Government Council  present at the exercise, include, Sanitarian Christiana Akhere Egbele, Mrs. Princewill  Odion Theodora, Engr. Louis Ighalo, Pastor Oiwoh Anthony, Mr. Ebinehita Ujadughe, Mrs. Oigbochie Omotese, Prince Ede and HoD Procurement, represented by Mrs. Patience Ikhalea, the Heads of Department of Environmental and Sanitation, Legal, Works, Revenue, Agric, Information, Planning, and Procurement respectively.


The Clerk of the House, Mr. Rudulf Sunday, was also present.
