Edo state Govt To Directly Engage Private Entities in Agriculture

Edo state government has invested massively in maize, rice and cassava plantations across the state and will soon begin the sale of products from the plantations to individuals and cooperate entities.

The above development was disclosed by Dr. Jerry Uwangue, the Edo state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, when he visited the Edo state maize plantation located in Udomi, Esan Central local government area.


Speaking with Winning Media, Hon. Dr. Uwangue disclosed that Edo state government is going to sell the products from the farms to corporate bodies and private individuals. He said; "...What we are doing now, is to commercialize it... we want to let people know that Edo state can invest and make money from their investments". 


"Ewu Flour Mill has shown interest, and we are also advertising to other private individuals that need maize for whatever businesses they are into..."


Continuing, he said; "this is just one phase. We are expanding. What we are seeing here today, is something that has never been done before". 


"We are proving to the world that a government can invest and also make money out of it."


"His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, with his practical governance, has instructed us that, we must constantly be in the farm..."


The Commissioner also disclosed that the mechanised plantations of maize, cassava and rice, embarked upon by the state government, located across Edo state, in Udomi, Edo Central, Warrake, in Edo North, Ekpoma, Edo central and Igiarekhi, in Edo South, are made possible, by the equipment procured by Governor Okpebholo.


Finally the commissioner used the opportunity to call on corporate entities and individuals that are interested in purchasing any of the farm products, to approach the Edo state Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
