High Chief Robert Okoinemen, popularly known as the Oduma of the Universe, has cautioned critics, particularly sons and daughters of Uromi, in Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo state, and people of Esan extraction in general, against what he described as the persistent insult and denigration of the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

In a recent viral video in which he spoke in Esan language, High Chief Okoinemen urged the people to appreciate and support Governor Okpebholo, whom he described as a performing governor.

He warned against a situation where the Governor's contributions and achievements would only be acknowledged after his departure from office or, as he recalled, like it happened in the case of the late Professor Ambrose Alli, whose achievements were acknowledged after his death.

According to him, Professor Alli, despite his remarkable contributions to the development of the old Bendel State, was heavily criticised and persecuted during his lifetime, only for many people to later acknowledge his enormous legacy.

Chief Oduma said Governor Okpebholo should not be subjected to a similar treatment.

Using an analogy to drive home his point, he said: "If you call your wife a goat, you are the husband of a goat. I have named Governor Monday Okpebholo AIGBONA, meaning one who should not be touched, because he is the anointed one.”

Continuing, he said; “This Governor is different from Professor Alli, who, in spite of all he did, was still condemned and incarcerated. Governor Monday Okpebholo has done a lot in keeping kidnappers and cultists at bay in Edo State and has executed many people-oriented projects across the state.

“If nobody is thanking the Governor, I am saying a big thank you to Governor Monday Okpebholo.”

High Chief Okoinemen further cautioned those who, according to him, believe they could gain popularity or public recognition by constantly insulting the Governor on social media. He said such conduct would not guarantee them enduring relevance.

According to him, some individuals, including Esan sons and daughters, particularly those from Uromi, living within Nigeria and in the Diaspora, had developed the habit of constantly attacking and insulting the Governor. This, he said is unacceptable. 

He maintained that Governor Okpebholo represents a collective interest that the people must protect and support. In his words: "Those Esan sons and daughters living in Nigeria and the Diaspora who are fond of insulting our Governor should understand that this is ours, and we must hold it tightly.”

He also urged those with genuine grievances against the administration to explore established channels of communication rather than resorting to social media attacks.

Chief Oduma specifically advised aggrieved persons to channel their complaints through the Senatorial Leader, General Cecil Esekhaigbe (Rtd.), or through their respective political and community leaders, who could then convey such concerns to the Governor.

According to him, constructive engagement and dialogue would be more beneficial than public insults and personal attacks.

High Chief Okoinemen maintained that Governor Okpebholo is working, and deserve the support, encouragement and constructive criticism of the people, rather than what he described as unnecessary insults and denigration.
