The direct distribution of fertilizers to registered farmers across Edo State started on the 17th of August 2026, with the distribution of the first batch of 8,000 bags of fertilizer and 30,000 cocoa seedlings, to farmers that registered with the Ministry. The distribution took place at the Edo State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Benin city.

Speaking, with Winning Media, the Edo state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Dr. Jerry Uwangue, said; "this is only the first batch. We are continuing the exercise next week".

"All the farmers that have registered should go to their respective local government areas to get further directive with respect to when same distribution will come up in their local government".

"we are ensuring that government support gets directly into the hands of genuine farmers. No middlemen, no diversion. Just real support for real farmers, I am directly supervising the exercise, and all our farmers should be assured of Governor Monday Okpebholo's interest in and  support for their activities in Edo state".

"Together, we will boost food production, strengthen food security, and build a more prosperous Edo State". Dr. Uwangwe said.

It will be recalled that, not long ago, farmers were urged to register in their respective local government areas for government support. The registration exercise was received with mixed feelings, while some responded, others doubted it.
