Kidnapped School Children, Teachers, in Oyo state, Regain Freedom
All 39 pupils and seven teachers abducted from three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been successfully rescued and freed. The victims were released after spending nearly two months in captivity following the initial attack on May 15, 2026.
The development was confirmed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, as well as the Oyo State Police Command.
Reports says, a joint effort by military personnel and Department of State Services (DSS) operatives secured the victims' freedom in the early hours of today.
Released videos show the victims being warmly received by their families. Some of the individuals appeared frail and malnourished from their long stay in the forest, and observers have called for immediate medical attention.
Tragically, a few weeks into the abduction, the captors killed one of the teachers, Michael Oyedokun.
While the kidnappers initially made severe, conflicting demands, both the Federal and Oyo State Governments maintained a strict stance and continually denied authorizing any ransom payments to secure the release of the victims.
Unconfirmed reports has revealed that some of the terrorists were neutralised, while eight were arrested.
