Gov.  Okpebholo,  Bringing 'Operation Lafiya Dole' To Edo State.

For several years before Governor Monday Okpebholo was inaugurated into office as the governor of Edo State in 2024, Edo State, especially Benin city, the state capital, was almost turned to a theater of war by cultists, as a result of cult clashes; but thankfully, since the emergence of this new Sheriff in Edo state, the situation is gradually calming down, as the governor has been sending the right signals to those that  trade in crime and violence.

The demolition of houses used by kidnapers as hideouts as well as the tough stance against, and zero tolerance for Kidnappings in the state, has sent the right signals to kidnappers and their collaborators in Edo state. However,  Governor Okpebholo did not stop there, as the latest development in his fight against Kidnappings and sundry crimes, is the setting up of a special Court for trying those apprehended for kidnappings, cultistism and similar crimes, and according to the governor, he will not hesitate to sign their warrant for them to face a capital punishment, if they are eventually convicted. This development has been commended by many indigenes and those resident in Edo state, and surprisingly, Rufai Oseni and Dr. Reuben Abati, both of Arise TV, who hitherto, were sceptical about the ability of the governor to deliver, recently commended the proactive leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo. This is how to be a governor.


Again, Governor Monday Okpebholo, during an interview he granted Arise TV, anchored by Seun Akinboboye, has expressly warned cultists to vacate Edo State, if they know what is good for them, saying; "...if you like, go to the hotel or your house and hold a meeting there, I will not wait a minute, I will go there and demolish it. That is the law in Edo state".


Recently in Benin, when some criminals kidnapped a woman along Airport road, close to vegetable market, the incident sent people into panic mood, with some asking the question: "will there ever be peace in Edo state again"? 


The Pragmatic Governor Okpebholo, however had to act swiftly, by saying, whether the criminals likes it or not, Edo State must be peaceful, BY FORCE. There will be LAFIYA DOLE in Edo state! Like the Hausa man will say.


Since the pronouncement by the Governor Okpebholo, that a special court to try offenders of Kidnappings and cultistism, will be set up, and if convicted,  such convicts will be made to pay the supreme price, the message got to the Den of the criminals, and some of them appears to have gone in search of legitimate jobs, while those that felt they cannot do any other job, have relocated, or are relocating out of Edo State.


Okpebholo is indeed showing example of good and practical governance.


In view of the foregoing developments in Edo state, parents and guardians are  strongly advised to caution their children and Wards against involving in Kidnappings and cultistism, so as to avoid stories that touch the heart.
