TMB Chairman Hails  Gov. Okpebholo For Bringing Agency Back To Life

The Chairman, Edo State Traditional Medicines Board, TMB, High Chief Abudu Ugbesia, JP, has commended the governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo for his foresight in resucitating the agency, after several years of neglect by the previous administration, saying; "... Governor Okpebholo's foresight in bringing Edo state Traditional Medicines Board back to life, clearly supports the fact that, we cannot afford to neglect what our forefathers used effectively for several years, in solving their health challenges, moreso, that traditional medicines also complements the orthodox medicine".

Chief Ugbesia made this commendation during the training of members of Edo state TMB, including practitioners drawn from the three Senatorial districts of Edo state, that held on Wednesday, June 10 2026, at John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy, JOOPSA.


Speaking at the training of the Traditional Medicines practitioners, on the safe preparation, and administration of herbal remedies in the treatment of various ailments, High Chief Ogbesia commended the Governor of Edo state, His Excellency, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, for revitalizing the Board, which he stated was established in 1985. He also thanked the governor for providing the necessary support to enable it function effectively. 


Chief Ugbesia, who warned that the practice of traditional medications appears to be gradually losing prominence, necessitated the continuous training of practitioners and educating the public on the proper application of traditional medicines.


He concluded by urging participants to pay close attention to the training so they can acquire the requisite knowledge for proper diagnosis, treatment, and administration of traditional remedies.


The resource person, TDr. Adewale Abimbola, popularly known as Iya Abiye Taiyeshe, took participants through the causes and management of various ailments, including malaria, typhoid fever, hypertension, among other health conditions. She provided practical guidance on herbal remedies commonly used in their treatment.


The programme featured interactive sessions during which various resource persons enlightened participants on different health challenges, causes, preventive measures, and treatment options. Participants were also educated on appropriate dosage administration and healthy lifestyle practices.


The training of traditional medicines practitioners by Edo state Traditional Medicines Board, is part of the efforts to enhance and update the knowledge and capacity of traditional medicine practitioners in the state.
