Kidnapping In Ewu: Fresh Revelations Emerge On Foiled Attempt

fresh details of all that happened is clearly pointing to the fact that, Edo state is gradually becoming too hot for the comfort of the kidnappers, if all the other Divisional units of the Nigeria Police Force, in Edo state, get on their toes and do the needful as the Ewu Division did; because, contrary to public opinion and what has been circulating on social media, giving credit to any other Divisional Police station, the Police officers and men of the Ewu Police Division, are to be commended.
From the investigations we carried out in Usodo Community, under Ewu kingdom, the Ewu Divisional Police station was contacted when the kidnappers struck. The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Ewu Division, Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Akanbi, we gathered, swung into action, to do the needful. We attempted to reach him on phone, but he declined commenting on the issue, saying; "... investigation is still ongoing".
Away from the above, we got the information on how the Police, Vigilantes/Operatives of the Edo state Security Corps, of Ewu axis, trekked for about 10 hours in the forest in pursuit of the kidnappers and how they have spread their dragnets in pursuit of the fleeing suspects.
We also gathered from our investigation, that the officers of the Ewu Police Division, operatives of Edo State Security Corps, local hunters, of Ewu Division, were the first set of armed men that pursued the dare devil kidnappers that Kidnapped a man and his wife from Usodo Community.
In a chat with Winning Media, one eye witness in Usodo Community, who does not want his name in print, gave details of how the kidnapped couple were rescued from the claws of dare devil kidnappers.
According to him, the village was already thrown into some sort of pandemonium before the Police arrived the village. He said; "...I am not sure of the division they came from, but I saw some Policemen in uniform as well as some hunters go in pursuit of the kidnappers".
We attempted to reach CSP, Akanbi, the DPO of Ewu Police Division, for two reasons, one: because, we got the information that, the Toyota Camry in which some of the apprehended kidnappers were conveyed in, belongs to him. Secondly, in the video circulating online, he drove the car out of the scene, and thirdly, from the video, the environment look much like Ewu Police Division vicinity.
Mr. Musa Okogun, one of the hunters who also spoke with Winning Media, said; "...we are always in the forests, we know the terrain. I am one of the hunters that went with the Police in pursuit of the kidnappers".
"The time was about 10:00pm, everywhere was dark but something gave the location of the kidnappers away, and we quickly increased our pace. We got very close to the kidnappers, but we couldn't shoot, to avoid killing the very people we were out to rescue. All along, they didn't know that we were following them".
Continuing, he said; "...early the following morning, Sunday, 25th January 2026, we continued, but at some point, we saw the husband of the woman coming; he was able to escape from the kidnappers by divine providence. it was the man that eventually led us to the well concealed hideout of the kidnappers where five of them were apprehended and others are still at large".
Mr. Musa Okogun, also revealed that the husband of the woman, informed them that, those amongst the kidnappers that was assigned to be on guard, slept off.
Again, It was from the report of the escaped husband that the Police discovered that the kidnappers were with only one AK-47 assault rifle while all the orders had cutlasses with them.
After the arrest of the 5 kidnappers, the Security agents eventually came out from the highway close to Avielle in Edo North.
Every other Police Division and officer/s that deserve some pat on the back, will definitely get it as we continue in the fight against kidnappers and other criminals in our society; but with respect to this very exploit, CSP Akanbi, the DPO of Ewu Division of the Nigeria Police Force, and his men, as well as the vigilantes and hunters from that axis, deserve the kudos.
