Irrua Temporary Market, Now To Open Next Week
...as the Ikeki performed Market opening traditional rites

The Irrua market, scheduled to begin operation on Saturday, the 10th of January 2026, has been postponed to Wednesday 14th January 2026.
The above development was revealed today Friday 9th of January by the Chairman, Esan Central local government, ECLG, area, Rt. Hon. Kelvin Ainiyalenhimi Iyere, following the official announcement of the opening of the market, and the performance of the requisite traditional rites and prayers by the Ikeki, the Market Police of Irrua Kingdom.
The Ikeki, ........who prayed for the prosperity and successful operations in the market, also announced that operations in the market will now begin on Wednesday, the 14th of January 2026.
Speaking with Winning Media Online, the Chairman, Esan Central Local Government Area, said; "...we decided to postpone the opening of this market, because we are trying to avoid the clumsiness that is currently being experienced in the main market, coupled with the fact that the makeshift stalls, are still being constructed; but between now and next week, I am sure a lot of progress would have been made".
Rt. Hon. Iyere also revealed that, all the traders that are currently displaced from the Eguare market, will be accommodated in the temporary location, saying; "...if the space we currently have, is not big enough to accommodate them, we will expand further".
Also present at the venue of the official and traditional announcement of the opening of the Idumu-Eguare market, Agric junction, along Akho-Uromi road, are, the Vice Chairman of Esan Central Local Government Area, Hon. Celo Ojemen, the Secretary to the local government area, Pastor Davies Oigbochie, the Head of Revenue Department, Pastor Tony Oiwoh, the Head of Department, Environment and Mrs. Christy Akhere Egbele.
Others include, High Chief Olu Ehidiamen, the Osojieahon of Irrua Kingdom, High Chief David Ekpen, and a host of others.
