The Chairman of Esan Central Local Government, ECLG, Area, Rt. Hon. Kelvin Ainiyalenhimi Iyere, has strongly warned that anyone who sells the space allocated to him, or her in the temporary Irrua market, at Idumu-Eguare, Agric Junction, Irrua, will have such space confiscated and the buyer evicted from the space.
Rt. Hon. Iyere made this known while addressing a group of traders at the premises of the market on Saturday, the 10th of January 2026.
Speaking, the local government Chairman, who appreciated the initiative of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo state, in the ongoing construction of the new structures in Eguare-Irrua market, to make it more benefiting and modern, also appreciated the traders for their understanding and peaceful conduct as a tentative location is being provided for them.
He said; “… let me sound, a very strong note of warning to all those that think they can be smart. Once a space is allocated to anyone, such a person is expected to put it to use, not to sell to another person, because no one paid the local government to get the space…”
“… I will not take it lightly with anyone that sells his or her space to a third-party. Our market men and women, are already going through a lot. I don’t expect anyone to add to their burden. That will be inhuman”. He said.
It will be recalled that the Chairman, Esan Central local government area, had earlier pointed out that the choked space in Irrua Market, at Eguare-Irrua, as a result of the ongoing construction of the modern market shops that made the traders to begin to shade their wares on the roads, necessitated the temporary location of the market to Idumu-Eguare, along Akho-Uromi road.
The opening of this temporary market has been slated for Wednesday, 14th January, 2026.
