ISTH Holds Festival of Nine Lessons, Carols, Award Ceremony

Today, Tuesday 23rd December 2025, Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, ISTH, Irrua, Esan Central Local Government, ECLG, area of Edo state, held the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols and Award ceremony 2025, tagged Restoration, Rediscovering Hope in the Promise of Christmas.

In his address, the Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the Hospital, Professor Reuben Eifediyi, who described the occasion as; "one that beautifully blends festive joy, reflection, thanksgiving and recognition, added that, Christmas is a season marked by Joy, hope, generosity and renewal.

Recalling the genesis of the Nine Lessons and Carols, the Chief Medical Director, said;  "it traces back to 1880 and has since become a cherished tradition around the world", saying, this cherished tradition, invites us to reflect on the story of hope, light and restoration that Christmas brings.

Appreciating the members of staff of the hospital, Professor Eifediyi said; "... My heart is filled with gratitude for the dedication, resilience, compassion and passion each of you has brought to your work. Your efforts have made an extraordinary difference to our institution and to those we serve".

The CMD, congratulated all the members of staff that received one award or the order saying; "...your excellence inspires us all and your success reflect the truth that achievement does not happen in isolation,...this powerful reminder, echoes the truth that we succeed together and that no single person stands alone in any achievement".


"To those not receiving awards, let me say this with sincerity, and deep appreciation: You matter profoundly. Your daily contributions, the work you do behind the scenes, the extra mile you work, the care and diligence you bring to our duties, are the foundation upon which every victory of this institution rests".


"Every role, every effort and every act of kindness, contributes to our shared success. You matter. Your commitment is seen and valued, and it fuels the very essence we celebrate".


The first to the ninth lessons, were taken from Isaiah 61:1, Micah 5:2, Like 2:7, Luke1:30, Psalm98:4, John 8:12, Luke 2:10, Romans 5:8 and Revelations 21:5 respectfully.


Highlight of the event was a raffle draw and awards of recognition to staff, including the Long Service Award, Outstanding Nurses Awards, Junior and Senior Staff Awards, amongst others.

Winners of the raffle draws, went home with bags of rice, while awardees received plaques and cash token rewards.

ISTH Choir as well as the Hospital's Traditional Dance Troupe were on ground to add colours to the event.

Eminent persons present at the event, include; High Chief Ekeoba, the Chairman of the Hospital Relations Committee, Dr. Frank Omoijele Odafe, a former Board member, ISTH, Hon. Muktar, who represented the Ewu Community, amongst others.
