40 Years After, Edo State Traditional Medicines Board, Waxing Stronger

The Chairman, Edo State Traditional Medicines Board, High Chief Abudu Ugbesia, JP, has pointed out that, the Board, even after 40 years of its establishment in  Edo state, is still waxing strong, adding that; "...in spite of this, the Board still has a long way to go, because, my vision is to create a template that will continue to take the Board and the practitioners from one level to another even after my tenure".

Chief Ugbesia made this known on Thursday the 28th of August 2025 during the Road Walk show of the members of the Board, and Tradomedical practitioners in Benin City Edo state. 


Continuing, the Chairman of the board said; "...my focus is to grow the Board and also encourage the practitioners to continue to carry out researches and discover solutions to different sicknesses and diseases".

"We are blessed with roots and herbs in Nigeria. Africa is blessed with roots and herbs, in view of this, we have no excuse for not using same to treat the sick and restore them back to good health".


The day one, of the two days' activities to mark the event of the celebration of the 40 years Anniversary of the board, and the celebration of the African traditional medicine day, was marked by a road show, a walk from Oliha Market to the office of the board along Sapele Road.


Edo state Traditional Medicines Board, was in the past eight years, abandoned by the previous administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki, but now recognised and brought back to life by the present administration of Senator Monday Okpebholo, and appointed High Chief Ugbesia as the Chairman of the Board. 


Edo state Traditional Medicines Board, currently has about 500 registered practitioners in the state, and still counting.
