The Chairman, Edo state Traditional Medicines Board, High Chief Abudu Ugbesia, JP, during his visit to Ovia South East and Ovia North East local government areas of Edo state, on Monday 28th July 2025 has emphasized that the government of Edo state, has zero tolerance for ritual killings that are associated with some other states in Nigeria, as the governor of Edo state, Senator Monday Okpebholo had earlier warned and has also asked him to deliver same message to all Traditional Medicine practitioners in the state.
Speaking in Ovia South West local government area council, where they were received by the Chairman of the local government area council, Hon. Charles Nosakhare Edobor, Chief Ugbesia said; "...I have a message from Edo State governor to all the traditional medicines practitioners in Edo state, and the message is very clear".
"The Governor of Edo state, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has asked me to tell all Tradomedical Practitioners in the state to stay away from all sorts of obnoxious practices. That human sacrifices, or the use of human parts for any ritual, is against the law, and he has zero tolerance for such practices".
"Again, The governor has the plan to train 600 traditional birth attendants across the 18 local government areas of Edo State; this is to ensure that they are exposed to best practices in assisting the orthodox medical practitioners in child deliveries".
Continuing, the Chairman of the Board, who used the opportunity to call on all tradomedical practitioners in Edo state, to ensure they register with the Board for proper identification, also warned that Task Force will soon begin to apprehend all those that are practicing without due registration.
In his response, the Chairman Ovia South west local government area, Hon. Hon. Charles Edobor, who thanked the Board and Edo Tradomedical practitioners for their visit, also commanded the foresight of Edo state governor for bringing Edo state TMB back to life; saying; "...as a local government area, we are ready to work with you, to ensure that our people get the best out of your services and products".
Continuing, the local government area Boss urged the Board to fish out all the quarks and bad eggs that have been parading themselves as Tradomedical practitioners.
"...I am happy you said you have a coordinator in our local government. We will join him in regulating traditional medicine practice in our environment". Hon. Edobor concluded.
