Clean Up Of Esan Central, Is A Continuous Exercise

The Esan Central Local Government, ECLG, area Chairman, Rt. Hon. Kelvin Ainiyelenhimi Iyere, has reiterated that the cleanup of Esan Central Local Government Area, is a continuous exercise.
The Chairman made this revelation today, May 14 2025 in Irrua, the headquarters of the local government, during the cleanup of the dump site along the highway.
Speaking, the Chairman said; "even though our governor has declared the last Saturday of every month as Environmental Sanitation Exercise day throughout the state, for us in Esan Central Local Government, cleanup of our environment, is a continuous exercise".
"...as long as refuse are generated everyday, we must continue to clean up our environment on a daily basis, and as the local government area where our governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo hails from, we must continue to show good examples in all areas"
Continuing, the Chairman, who revealed that, the Sanitation Exercise in Esan Central Local Government, started since four months ago, in February, also pointed out that; "...even though the state Sanitation Exercise was scheduled to begin on Saturday, 26th April, but was cancelled because the date coincided with the date of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, exam, the exercise was partially observed in Esan Central".
"Though, vehicular movements were not restricted, major evacuation of accumulated refuse and clean up of Irrua market, took place".
Finally, the Chairman used the opportunity to call on all the people of the local government to prepare their minds for the coming sanitation exercise; saying; "...there will be zero tolerance for filth and accumulation of refuse of any form in Esan Central".
Commenting on the evacuation of the refuse, the Head of Department, Environment, of Esan Central Local Government Area, Sanitarian Christiana Egbele, said the debris at the refuse dump site had to be pushed farther away from the highway, because it was almost encroaching on the road. She urged people to avoid dumping their refuse indiscriminately at the site, even though the place is a dump site. She revealed that the evacuation exercise will be completed tommorow, Thursday, 15th May, 2025.
