Ugbesia, Resumes Office As Chairman, Governing Board, Edo state Traditional Medicine 

...says it's a new beginning for Tradomedical practitioners in Edo state

The Chairman, Governing Board,  Edo state Traditional Medicine Board, High Chief Abudu Ugbesia Godwin, JP,  the Onagbonsoboleamen of Esanland, today, Monday, 3rd February 2025, formally resumed office.


In a meeting with the entire members of staff of the Board, Chief Dr. Abudu Ugbesia, welcomed the Secretary and Staff of the Board, and also thanked them for holding on the fort all these years, after the tenure of Prof. Thomas Omo Oleabhiele, in 2016, the immediate past Governing Board Chairman.

Continuing, Chief Ugbesia said; "...in line with the slogan of the Governor of Edo state, Governor Monday Okpebholo, that a new Edo state is rising, we must be prepared for the rebranding of Edo state Traditional Medicine Board, I plead with all of you, to join me in achieving my vision of creating a new Edo state Traditional Medicine Board that will benefit our people of Edo state".


The Chairman, Governing Board of Edo state Traditional Medicine Board, who also revealed to the staff of the board that he is a very simple individual, who loves achieving results in every set task, also used the opportunity to reveal to the staff members that during his tenure, new innovations, including the setting up of a traditional Hospital, will be introduced, and all Tradomedical practitioners in Edo state, will be brought under one umbrella".

Responding, the Board Secretary, Dr.  Amina Mike Opara, who expressed joy over the resumption of the Chairman, of the Board, said; "...it's  the beginning of a new era. Having you sir, is a blessing to us.  As a parastatal that is over 40 years old, this is not where traditional medicine in Edo state, should be. We need to begin to claim our space.


"We are here to promote collaboration between Traditional and the orthodox Medicine practitioners. We look forward to having this cordial relationship with you". 


Chief Ugbesia, also used the opportunity to pay a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole.

At the Commissioner's office, Chief Ugbesia who told the Edo state Commissioner for Health of the need for the traditional and the  orthodox medical practitioners to collaborate in the dispensation of effective medical treatments in Edo state, pointed out that, some areas of deficiencies in the orthodox medical diagnosis, are often effectively taken care of by the Tradomedical practitioners.


Responding, Dr. Oshiomhole, who agreed on the need for collaboration between orthodox and Tradomedicine, expressed concern over the dosage in the use of Traditional Medicines, saying; "this is actually the main area of difference. Traditional Medicines can actually complement the efforts of the orthodox medicines. We look forward to collaborating with Edo state Tradomedical practitioners."


Other members of staff present in the meeting, include: Mrs. Vivian Uwaifo, the Director, Shared services, Mr. Omoruyi Osazee, the acting Head of Department, Planning and Research Statistics, Mr. Eric Iyahen, acting Head of Department, Registration and Inspection and ten other members of staff.
