Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has requested the Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin, Archbishop Augustine Akubueze to pick a date for the commencement of weekly Masses in the Government House in Osadebey Avenue, Benin City.

This development is contained in a Press statement issued from the Office of the Governor of Edo State, dated, December 16, 2024 and signed by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to Edo State Governor.

According to the Press statement, the request by the governor, was orchestrated by the request made by the group, the 'Edo State branch of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Nigeria' CCRN, Upper Ekenwan, led by its Coordinator, Mr. Otakhor Thaddeus Iredia, when they paid the governor a courtesy visit in Government House, Benin City.

Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Daniel Iyangbe, appealed to the Governor for the Church to be conducting weekly masses in the Government House, which was earlier stopped due to political reasons  that did not concern the church.

Responding on the request to have weekly masses in Government House, Governor Okpebholo  told the leader of the group to ask the Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin, Archbishop Augustine Akubueze to pick a date for the Masses to commence.

Continuing, the governor said; "The house of God is a house of prayer, and anything decreed on earth shall be established in heaven. I believe in your prayers, and I know that with the prayers of the Saints, we shall have peace.

"I request for prayers for peace upon Edo State and the land as well. Also, pray for the President for wisdom to lead the nation. I urge you to tell the Bishop to choose a day in the week for the Masses to commence and if I am free, I will also join you in praying for the State and the nation,” he concluded.
