A former United Nations Boss, and the longest serving Permanent Secretary in the history of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Professor Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi, OFR, who contested for Edo state governorship position under the auspices of the Peoples Democratic Party, and who was clearly the most outstanding of all the gubernatorial aspirants in the just concluded Edo guber primary election, has urged his teeming supporters to be resolute in changing our narrative for good in Edo State.

Ambassador Uhomoibhi gave this advice in Benin city recently while speaking with a team of Newsmen.

He said; "...we must remain stedfast in changing our narrative. We must not continue to allow mercantilists take advantage of the widespread poverty in the land to access political power..."

" ...for me, the delivery of the largest dividend of democracy to the largest number of people, is what governance is all about..." anything short of this, is unacceptable..."

Continuing, Ambassador Uhomoibhi said; "...let me go a bit continental; Africa has a problem because we are at the bottom of the ladder, as a result of the fact that we do not prioritize excellence, we do not think about the future, and we allow ourselves to be manipulated by forces that are fighting only for their own vested interest..."

Uhomoibhi who pleaded that, we must learn how to prioritize excellence, in our leadership selection process, as no one can give what he does not have, and that if we put a boufoon in office, we can only get boufoonry, and no amount of prayers will make the difference, added that; "...we must at all time put in office, someone who really think about the people's interest; someone who can advance, promote, project and defend our interest at all time, for the betterment of the society at large..."

Giving his assessment of the just concluded Edo Guber PDP primary, Ambassador Uhomoibhi who maintained that the selection process, was not perfect, but added that, room exist for improvement, saying; "...the antecedent of the process, is more important, and should be a matter of concern to all of us..."

Continuing, he said; "...I am not given to hopelessness; we are on a journey in Nigeria, Democracy is not a straight line trajectory. For me, what is important is for all of us to take collective responsibility to ensure that the right thing is done at the right time..."

Ambassador Professor Uhomoibhi concluded by saying; "...for me, the delivery of the largest dividend of democracy to the largest number of people, is what governance is all about..." anything short of this, he said, is unacceptable.
