Former UN Boss says Though Process Not Perfect, Room Exist for Improvement... preach Unity

The most outstanding Aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, A former United Nations Undersecretary General, who was also a one time Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and former Ambassador of Nigeria to several countries, Ambassador Prof. Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi, OFR, has pointed out that, though the PDP gubernatorial party Primaries is not perfect, but room exist for improvement, as we are in a process of perfecting our practice of democracy.

Speaking with a team of newsmen in Benin, the Edo state capital, after the PDP Primaries that held on Thursday, 22nd February, at Samuel Ogbemudia stadium,  Ambassador Uhomoibhi said; "...in our Political selection process, we should take into cognisance, the excellence, experience, background and integrity of whoever we are entrusting with the leadership of our dear state..."


"...we are at the bottom of the ladder today, because in the selection process of who leads our state, we do not focus on those that have the ability and capability to change our narrative..."


"...if you put a bouffoon in office, all that you eventually get, is bouffoonry, and no amount of prayers nor fastings will make the difference.


Ambassador Uhomoibhi who said, we are the architects of our fortunes or misfortunes, added that, as we make our beds, so shall we lie on it..." 


"...the antecedents of what happened today, is what really matters, though we are on a journey of Democracy, what we saw today, though not perfect, but what is more important, is for us to resolve that we must make progress; we must therefore, all ensure that the right thing is done at the right time, so as to make our state a model for other states, as we have no other state, but Edo state..."


Continuing, Uhomoibhi said; "... contrary to the insinuation of some people, that I will not be present at the Primary, I chose to attend. I am an ardent believer in the power of God almighty. For me, the end is what really matters, and I don't start a journey, only to cutoff midway"


He however, maintained that, he will work with his party, the PDP, irrespective of who eventually emerge from the process.


Ambassador Prof. Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi, an outstanding former Nigeria Ambassador of great repute and integrity, the longest serving Permanent Secretary in the history of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a one-time Under Secretary General of the United Nations, UN, in Dafur-Sudan, who was also the President of the United Nations Human Right Council, UNHRC, and at same period, the President of the World Intelectual Property Organisation, WIPO; a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Edo gubernatorial Aspirant for the upcoming 2024 governorship election, is clearly the most outstanding of all the Edo gubernatorial Aspirants, irrespective of their Political parties.

  1. No problems i pray they should have you as member of Edo state transformation / working team to give them insight to the reality; as what supposed to be done to move the state forward or a model to other states in the federation .
